We offer comprehensive degree programs designed for creative and career-oriented students. Our classes are innovative, and offered year-round, enabling students to graduate in as little as twenty-one months. Our curriculum is designed to encompass the industry trends in expanding industries, affording students an opportunity to gain hands-on practice in a dynamic and visionary environment.

We offer the following subject-specific programs of study:

Animation, Art & Design (AAA)

Our Animation Art & Design program begins with a foundation in design. You have an opportunity to learn to conceive and design two- and three-dimensional images using both traditional and digital techniques. Scripting. Rendering. Storyboards. You can alter, manipulate, and reconstruct your characters to interact with audio and video elements.

Audio Production (AAA)

Many of our faculty are industry professionals. With them, you can get both the theory and the hands-on experience you need to begin your audio career as you record in the studio and in the field, and create digital media for class and community projects.

Background studies in industry business will round out your audio education, readying you for entry-level positions with recording studios, post production houses, multimedia, web and video production companies, audio manufacturers and retailers, or A/V and live sound reinforcement companies.

Baking & Pastry (AAA | D)

AAA

This program focuses on the art and preparation of breads, cookies, pies, tarts, cakes and other desserts. You will discover the tools and techniques used by professionals to get professional results and you will receive a solid foundation designed to enhance your knowledge and skills in the kitchen, and prepare you for entry-level positions within the baking and pastry industry.

D

This 36-credit certificate program focuses on the art and preparation of breads, cookies, pies, tarts, cakes and other desserts. Culinary Arts (AAA)

The Culinary Arts program covers the fundamentals of fine cuisine, nutrition, purchasing, cost control, kitchen management, and restaurant procedures. Students will have an opportunity to prepare meals in our on-site professional kitchens utilizing industry-standard in culinary technologies. Our faculty chefs use their knowledge to prepare students for entry-level positions with restaurants, hotels, catering firms, bakeries, and resorts.

If you have a passion for food, but an eye for business, our Culinary Arts Management program may be a perfect fit. Get a taste of the business side with a focused education in areas that include catering, event planning, and wine and spirits. Why just make the dish when you can run the business? In the Culinary Arts Management program, you'll focus on what it takes to manage a kitchen, restaurant, or catering operation. You'll study communications, training, leadership, management, accounting, marketing, financial management, and employee relations. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as restaurant manager or catering manager.

Digital Design is designed for students who have professional-level graphic design skills, but want to enhance the computer and technology skills needed in today's marketplace. Graduates are prepared for entry-level production and design positions with advertising agencies, graphic design firms, corporate communications departments, printing companies, and businesses with significant graphic design needs.

Digital Filmmaking & Video Production (BFA)

Students are taught how to communicate a concept through scripts and storyboards, while developing a solid foundation in linear and digital editing fundamentals utilizing video and audio elements. Additional instruction is provided to help students develop the business savvy needed to budget, cast, light, shoot, and edit video creations.

Fashion Design (AAA | BFA)

AAA

Through hands-on training you'll have the opportunity to learn to take the idea swirling in your head through illustration, pattern drafting and construction to a finished product. Our industry professionals will teach you how to research and develop a line that meets your intended market's wants and needs. Your concepts will become part of a final collection that represents your focus.

BFA

Students are instructed by industry professionals as to how to research and develop clothing lines tailored to their intended markets, as well as the illustration, pattern drafting, and construction of finished product lines. Students will have an opportunity to create final collections of their own guided creation. All of this is part of building a portfolio to seek an entry-level position as an assistant designer, merchandiser, production specialist, private label designer or other fascinating fashion career.

Our program can prepare students to choose your own direction as you learn from fashion professionals with studies in visual merchandising, marketing, retailing, and buying. You'll participate in simulated buying sessions and create marketing strategies..

BFA

Our Fashion Marketing program can prepare students to choose their own direction as they learn from fashion professionals. Instruction includes courses in visual merchandising, marketing, retailing, buying, as well as simulated buying sessions, the creation of marketing strategies, and advanced projects in retail management, marketing, and advertising.

The field of game art and design is expanding! And Seattle is a hub for game entertainment and technology with many developers and major industry players in the area. The Art Institute of Seattle has built upon its long-standing, quality reputation by offering a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in Game Art & Design. We offer an industry-relevant program for those with the passion and drive to develop the next generation of this challenging art form, and our experienced faculty are committed to helping you develop your skills and vision. Graphic Design (AAA | BFA)

AAA

You can develop skills in drawing, design, composition, color, and type using mediums and techniques that give you new ways to express your art. You'll have an opportunity to solve complex visual problems using both traditional and digital media. Upon graduation, you may have the critical thinking skills, knowledge base, and professional portfolio needed to open doors to entry-level positions in fields including advertising, publishing, illustration, television, and other areas where effective communication through graphic design is needed.

BFA

Coursework is tailored to cultivate skills in drawing, design, composition, color usage, and typography utilizing a variety of mediums and techniques. Students are instructed as to how to develop complex creations utilizing traditional and digital media technologies, and how to develop professional portfolios which can facilitate post-graduation employment in fields ranging from advertising, illustration, and publishing to television and film production.

Instruction includes all aspects of the design process, from material specification and fabrication to the practical and fiscal application of design projects. Graduates are prepared for entry-level employment opportunities with product and industrial design companies, architectural firms, exhibit and model-making studios, museums, and entertainment industries.

Instruction places an emphasis on the study of form and design elements. Students can develop drafting, AutoCAD, and general computer skills as they formulate residential and commercial floor plans. Visits to the Seattle Design Center, and residential and commercial design studios augment classroom programs.

Media Arts & Animation (BFA)

Animation students begin with a strong foundation in design, drawing, color, 2-D animation, and video production. As they advance, students can learn to storyboard, create and animate 3-D models, develop background layouts, special effects and compositing. Students have an opportunity to learn what it takes to work in production environments and how to market themselves and their skills. As part of their course work, all students have an opportunity develop a traditional portfolio and a digital portfolio to show prospective employers.

Photography (AAA | BFA)

AAA

Photography focuses our attention, directing us through images to the things we need to know. Photography delivers images that sell everything from fashion to fiber optics. At The Art Institute of Seattle you can learn the artistry of photography along with both traditional and digital technical skills. Composition. Lighting. You can digitally combine, retouch, and alter your images with equipment and software that will challenge you to grow creatively. Our graduates are prepared for entry-level staff positions with advertising agencies, large corporations or service agencies, magazines, newspapers, studios and stock photo houses.

BFA

Students are instructed as to how to cultivate the artistry of photography using traditional and digital photographic methodology. Digital manipulation, composition, and lighting techniques are incorporated into coursework. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions with advertising agencies, corporations or service agencies, magazines, newspapers, studios, and stock photo houses.

Residential Design (D)

Residential Design is an interior design program for those with little or no previous art or design experience. You will have an opportunity to learn the industry fundamentals and be prepared for entry-level positions as designers or support personnel in interior design studios, including those of material and supply companies and design firms.

The Art of Cooking (D)

You will study the fundamentals of the food service industry, from cost control to culinary basics, from cooking methods to regional cuisines. The Art of Cooking offers a broad range of skills that are design to prepare you for entry-level positions within an exciting industry that offers tremendous opportunity and flexibility. This program is designed for individuals with little or no prior culinary training.

Video Production (AAA)

In our Video Production program you'll have opportunity to learn to translate your idea into a script and storyboard. You'll then go on to produce, shoot, and edit your story. You'll have an opportunity to learn the craft both in the studio and on location from faculty who've been there, done that, and continue to work in fields that include independent films, sports production, and documentaries. From music videos to commercials to live multi-camera productions you'll learn what it means to be part of a team and what it takes to make it in your chosen field. Graduates of our program are prepared to seek entry-level positions in the broadcast, short form, and post production fields.

Web Design & Interactive Media (AAA | BS)

AA

In our program you'll have an opportunity to build on traditional art and computer skills, then learn how to integrate all the elements for an effective end product. Graduates of our program are prepared for entry-level positions in entertainment, electronic publishing, electronic games, education, marketing, corporate communications, and information delivery.

BS

Students are instructed as to how to refine traditional art and computer skills to create a rich product incorporating text, photography, animation, audio, video, and visual effects which will prepare them for a wide variety of career options, including entertainment, electronic publishing, education, marketing, corporate communications, and information management.
